How to manage indecisiveness and tough decisions in VUCA world?

One could see, even at first glance, that 2026 brought more uncertainty and new challenges worldwide. There is not an easy formula for how to set your course and standing in such complex business environment. VUCA is at its peak. But there are always small steps we could take to keep the business flow as neat and structured as possible.

Looking now deeper in Executive Search Consultancy business, indecisiveness is what we are often challenged by. On one side we have companies whose situations are changing daily, consequently their need for new hires is fluctuating. On the other side we have candidates eager to receive feedback on their application process, also others who are having hard time bringing decision on a job change. So yes, it is a very delicate and tricky situation to be caught in the middle of, but this is where our expertise lies - and there are always things within our power to manage.

Little steps such as:

  • Communicating clearly with all stakeholders and setting as clear as possible expectations for everyone.
  • Managing expectation, be open to your business partners about current situation and possibilities.
  • Having immediate rection to new information and adjusting course of action accordingly.
  • Setting aside factors that are completely out of our power and focusing only on concrete tasks and initiatives.
  • While acting always take care of other parties involved, do not forget to understand others standing point and perspective. This way every situation can be handled better no matter how difficult or tricky it is.
  • Be an active listener. I imagine everybody hears this sentence a lot, but are you really applying it in unexpected situations?


Going back to HR topics in 2026, what is also characterizing job market are downsizing and employee redundancy. The market is strongly polarized, and tough decisions are to be made daily. For specific positions, for example within accounting departments, there is a high demand in the market which currently available experts in Serbia cannot cover. On the other hand, many companies, especially in IT outsourcing sector and automotive industry, are facing difficulties and downsizing rapidly. Both situations are very demanding and really need to be addressed and handled cautiously and professionally. There are available options and HR expert solutions for both employers and redundant employees that could facilitate these delicate periods such as career counselling, psychological support and tailored outplacement programs.  

During these hectic times, no matter what role or side you are at, remember to pause and reflect. But this does not mean reflect on challenges and actual topics you are working on. Go pass that and see the wider picture, check your priorities, think about your accomplishments in life and business, remind yourself who you are and how many important things you have done so far. Empower and fuel yourself with energy and information. Now is the time to bring the decision.
